What are one or two things you look for when hiring executives?
Integrity and passion
For the last two years, it has been a candidate’s market. What you have seen recently and have things changed?
The market for senior talent in higher education generally may slow. As enrollments decline, schools shrink, and we see downward pressure on tuition. At elite schools, there should be little abatement in either turnover or demand. Outside higher education, expect nonprofits to eventually feel the pinch of higher rates and inflation, but those pressures have not arrived yet.
What are the most effective (one or two) initiatives for retaining employees?
Above all else, make them feel appreciated.
How are you using AI tools to optimize your organizational performance?
Just starting. Too early to say.
What do you most value in a partnership with a search firm?
The trust that arises when the search firm listens, understands the institution’s needs, and puts in the effort to find a good pool of candidates.
